Sash Windows, Casement Windows and Wooden Doors.

Our Aims

At  Sash Hastings, we proudly serve the communities of Kent and London. With a 5 star Google rating, our core value is to stick to traditional methods while using modern technology. We will never recommend switching to uPVC in any of our quotes. Most modern sash window alternatives are not suitable for old buildings and do not stand the test of time like traditional sash windows.

Traditional sash windows, especially those made from high-quality timber and properly maintained, can last for well over a century.

Many Georgian and Victorian sash windows have already proven their longevity by remaining functional for 150 years or more. With regular maintenance, such as repainting, sealing, and occasional repairs, these windows can continue to function beautifully and add historic charm to a property. On the other hand, uPVC windows typically have a lifespan of about 20 to 35 years.

While uPVC windows require less maintenance than traditional timber sash windows, they are more susceptible to discoloration, warping, and general wear over time. Once they reach the end of their lifespan, they usually need to be replaced entirely, as they are difficult to repair.

Our window fitters and specialist timber joiners will always try to draught proof,  repair, restore or replace windows to replicas of the ones being worked on.  With any new windows, we can either match the old designs with like-for-like replacements or customise them to your liking. We have a history of working with both commercial, private and listed buildings and will do up upmost to provide you with the best service possible.

If you’re on the hunt for replacement box sash windows that perfectly replicate traditional style but deliver modern performance look no further. At Sash Hastings, we supply premium timber sliding sash windows that complement a range of properties. So, no matter whether you live in a Victorian townhouse, Edwardian cottage or Georgian terrace you’re sure to find a sash window to match your home’s unique character.

Sash Window Restoration - Margate, Kent
23th May 2025

This week, we worked on a small 6-over-6 sash window repair in Margate, with a focus on restoring the glazing bars, which had started to deteriorate. The window needed a bit more care than usual, so we carefully removed the sashes and brought them back to the workshop for a more detailed repair.

Once in the workshop, we repaired and strengthened the glazing bars, making sure they were solid and secure. The glass was carefully cleaned and reset, and we made sure everything was properly sealed. After some sanding, filling, and a fresh coat of undercoat, the sashes were ready to go back in.

Once finished tomorrow, we will reinstall the window, add draught-proofing, and made sure it opened and closed smoothly.

Reglazing, Overhaul and Draft proofing - Margate, Kent
28th April 2025

This week, we’ve been working on a sash window restoration project in Margate, giving a set of original timber windows a much-needed overhaul, reglazing, and draught-proofing. The goal was to improve their functionality, insulation, and overall appearance, all while keeping their period charm intact.

We started by ensuring the sashes opened and closed smoothly, making adjustments so they lined up perfectly in the frames. Once the movement was spot on, we fitted new draught-proofing strips, sealing any gaps to keep the cold air out. Every detail was taken care of. parting and staff beads were caulked and finished neatly, joints were filled, and any pinholes were patched and painted for a flawless finish.

Next, we tackled any areas of rot, carefully removing damaged timber before making precise resin repairs. Once sanded down to a smooth finish, everything was undercoated and prepped for durability. The glass was reglazed and cleaned, all masking tape removed, and the frames given a final wipe-down to leave them looking as good as new. We also oiled up the windows to ensure effortless operation and fitted all the hardware, keys included.
By the end of the job, this Margate home had sash windows that not only looked great but worked beautifully too.
